01Primary auto liability
Required to operatePays for injuries to other people and damage to their property when your truck causes an accident, including legal defense.
Federal minimums for interstate for-hire carriers start at $750,000 depending on cargo; many brokers and shippers ask for $1,000,000.
02Physical damage
Pays to repair or replace your own truck after a collision, rollover, fire, theft or other covered loss, usually up to the stated value you choose.
Has a deductible. Lenders usually require it on a financed truck.
03Motor truck cargo
Covers the freight you haul for others if it is damaged or lost in a covered event, such as an accident, fire or theft.
Watch the exclusions: unattended vehicles, certain commodities and reefer breakdown unless added.
04Trailer coverage
Physical damage for trailers you own, and trailer interchange for non-owned trailers you pull under a written interchange agreement.
A trailer you own is not automatically covered just because the tractor is.
05Non-trucking liability
For leased owner-operatorsLiability for an owner-operator leased to a motor carrier when the truck is used outside of dispatch, for example driving home after a load.
It is not business-use coverage. While under dispatch, the motor carrier’s liability usually applies, depending on your lease.
